Friendly, no nonsense, practical advice
Continual learning is something I feel very passionately about. Why? Because I’ve been there! On both sides of the table - as a teacher, and as an Adult Learner. The Industry has changed. Our practice must change - and the move from rigid rules and structures, to a more fluid, intuitive, creative and natural approach to design is going hand-in-hand with the move away from traditional floral foam.
For creative design, making somebody feel comfortable is the first challenge - we all feel quite vulnerable and open to criticism when facing a new challenge, or updating skills, or learning a new process. I feel very strongly that the best way to learn is in a non-judgemental, friendly, non-critical but open and honest environment. If I show you the mistakes I made, if I explain the challenges I faced, and share the tips, tricks, skills and yes…sometimes…shortcuts - that I make, to create successful floral designs, for paying clients - to run a successful floral business, then I can build your trust and create an environment where you will be able to take on board the most, and get the most from our sessions together.
Sharing all my tips and advice on Foam-free Floristry Methods
This is not a floristry school. This is not ‘text book’. This is not an instagram-worthy top end studio environment either. There is no photo shoot or professional portfolio to leave here with. Sorry! (there are plenty of those places already available if you would like that). This is me, in my working, practical studio (at home, in my garden) sharing my sustainable, foam-free methods and natural, creative approach to design…with you.
Come and join me. I promise that we will have a fun day, but that you will come away feeling much more confident and ready to push your floral design skills forward to another level, whatever your start-point.
How to form your 1-1 floristry training session with me
The beauty of 1:1 sessions is that they can be tailored to suit you. Most courses or workshop days will have a set schedule and cover set modules, that may or may not be entirely relevant to your needs. Not only that, you will have to share materials, and will often work together with others to create the designs in a group session. This is great for social reasons, but not always great for your business!
Working to your strengths and instilling confidence
Your time is valuable, and so is mine, so I like to tailor all florist sessions to individuals. What are you struggling with most? What are your main concerns? Do you have a slight confidence blip in one particular area? (we have all had those! Don’t worry!). I’ll ask for your input on enquiry, and we’ll cover what we can. I have a background in teaching and like to instil confidence and work to your strengths and help you overcome any fears.
Training sessions to suit your needs, and fit in with your busy schedule
Your investment; choose from the options below:
Half day session 10-1pm, or 1pm-4pm £250 1-2 units, plus business logistics chat
1-day session 10-4pm £400 3-4 units (save £100), plus business logistics chat
2-day session 10-4pm, 2 consecutive days £700 As many units as we can muster! (save £100)
A ‘unit’ is a topic/subject or design item. It’s a little hard to quantify here, as it is individual to your needs, and depends on the size of the topic - but it may be a topic such as ‘hand tied bouquets’ or ‘compote bowl arrangement and is something that I feel we could reasonably cover, in enough depth, in the amount of time. I will always be generous with my experience, any tips and advice and we can chat business experience too. You may want to cover one topic in depth, or do 2 topics more quickly. We’ll plan for your needs.
I’ll provide a great selection of florals to work with, we will work seasonally, and I will source our blooms from local flower farms, as much as possible, with the addition of some imported (Dutch) flowers if and where necessary.
